n8nChat

The n8nChat Chrome extension

Install from the Chrome Web Store

n8nChat is an n8n Chrome extension. You add it from the Chrome Web Store, then open the n8n editor you already use. The chat generates or edits a workflow on that official canvas. It is not a web app that hosts n8n for you.

The current Chrome Web Store build is 0.4.4. Firefox is on the same version. Notes we have already published sit on the changelog. Do not expect this page to repeat them.

  1. Open the n8nChat listing on the Chrome Web Store.
  2. Add the extension to Chrome. Read the store permission prompt before you confirm.
  3. Refresh your n8n workflow page after install. The store listing asks for that refresh.
  4. Paste your own OpenAI or Gemini API key. Then describe a workflow in chat.

Your key, and what the extension can reach

n8nChat requires your own OpenAI or Gemini API key. That is BYOK. The extension does not generate a workflow without it. Usage bills to the key you provide. n8nChat is not a key reseller.

Chrome will show the listing permissions before you add the extension. Read them on the store page. n8nChat has to run on the n8n editor tab you already opened so it can place nodes on that canvas. It also talks to n8nchat.com for your n8nChat account. It does not replace n8n's own login or credentials.

If you do not want to give the extension a model key, do not install it. The product does not work as a keyless demo.

After you add it

Open n8n Cloud or your self-hosted editor. Start a workflow or open one you already have. Use the chat to generate a graph or to edit what is there. Then use n8n as you already do: open nodes, fix mappings, run a test.

Installing the extension does not give you n8n. If you do not have n8n yet, get n8n first.

Firefox is the secondary install

The search we care about here is "n8n chrome extension," so Chrome is first.

Pick one browser and stay there for the editor session. Add the extension, refresh n8n, add the key, then prompt.

Open the n8nChat listing on the Chrome Web Store, add it to Chrome, then refresh your n8n editor page.

Why do I need an API key?

Is there a Firefox build?

Yes. Firefox is the secondary install on Firefox Add-ons. Chrome is the primary one.

What n8n do I open after install?

The n8n you already use. n8n Cloud or self-hosted. The extension works on that official canvas.

Does installing n8nChat give me n8n?
